  • Testament explores the glaciers of Iceland, where ice covers around a tenth of the country. Vatnajökull, the largest ice cap in Europe by volume, sits above active volcanoes on an island slowly being pulled apart by two drifting tectonic plates.

These glaciers are disappearing. Since around 1890, Iceland's glaciers have lost almost a fifth of their area, with nearly a third of that loss occurring since 2000. Around 70 small named glaciers have vanished entirely. In 2014, the same year this series was created, Okjökull became the first Icelandic glacier to officially lose its status as a glacier, its ice no longer thick enough to move under its own weight.

I wanted to photograph these glaciers while they are still part of the Icelandic landscape. Testament is a record of what remains, and a quiet reminder of what may one day be lost.

Limited-edition fine art C-type prints are available in two sizes:
    Small: 30 × 30 inches · Edition of 10
    Large: 45 × 45 inches · Edition of 5
