  • Strata‍ was photographed across the desert landscapes of Arizona and Utah, where layers of rock tell a story stretching back almost 1.8 billion years. Over that time, this land has been both sea and desert, each leaving behind its own layers of stone. Around 190 million years ago, vast fields of sand dunes covered the region. Over time, the sand was buried and hardened into rock, before wind and water slowly carved through it, exposing the ancient layers and creating the canyons and formations we see today.

Iron gives the rock its extraordinary colour, from deep reds and pinks to golds, yellows and brilliant whites.

I was fascinated by how millions of years of change could become visible in the landscape. Strata focuses on these layers, reducing the landscape to colour, line and form.

Limited-edition fine art C-type prints are available in two sizes:
    Small: 30 × 30 inches · Edition of 10
    Large: 45 × 45 inches · Edition of 5
